Why the Faculty of Philology is one of the most important educational institutions in the field of Higher education?
On the Faculty of Philology, valuable knowledge is acquired in the field of language, literature and culture. By educating on one of our study programs students not only acquire the title of professor, but also a set of competences that are necessary for them to face numerous challenges of the modern world.
The basic professorial competences acquired at our faculty are knowledge of languages, literature and cultures within national and foreign philology. By acquiring this humanistic and philological knowledge, students develop creativity, communication skills, productivity, critical thinking as well as other qualities necessary for education and other jobs that await them.
Mission
The mission of the Faculty of Philology is primarily education and science. This implies continued educational and scientific activity and the transmission of philological knowledge, skills and competences to generations of students. The faculty, among other things, provides serious scientific and research work and individual improvement of professors and teaching assistants.
By continuous upgrading of the teaching process and scientific work, as well as its organization at the highest scientific and academic level, our faculty protects and studies national languages, literature and culture values. Likewise, through studies of the world's most important languages, literature and cultures, the faculty’s goal is to participate scientifically and educationally in the widest international context.
What results have we achieved so far?
The most significant result of scientific-teaching work are the generations of the students of Serbian, English, German, Italian, French and Russian language and literature.
The Faculty of Philology exists under that title since 2009. However, most of our study programs have significantly longer tradition because they existed within Faculty of Philosophy that was founded 1994.
Our results are visible in numerous scientific conferences that regularly take place at the faculty, in independent and various publishing, as well as international cooperation with numerous European universities.
Within regional and European projects, our students, professors and teaching assistants have the possibility of scholarships, exchanges, study stays and trainings at partner universities and faculties. This possibility is, particularly, due to the knowledge and study of world languages, literature and cultures, very significant and accessible to our faculty.
What makes us different from the others?
The Faculty of Philology is distinguished by the educational profiles of our graduate students, the specificity of the study, but also the importance and role of our alumni in today’s society, culture and education.
Philology is the field that implies systematic, instructive and scientific studying of the language, literature and culture. General studies of philology, as well as individual national philology contribute that our faculty is a specific and 'slightly different' choice for those that wishes to dedicate themselves to these fields of knowledge and creation.
Wide range of fields and disciplines that we are all dedicated to makes studying at the Faculty of Philology specific. Scientific approach to language learning, literature interpretation, culture studying and acquiring of teaching and other creative skills, make key aspects, but specifies of the studying itself as well.
Alumni of our faculty are primarily professors of Serbian, English, German, Italian, French and Russian language and literature by their output profile, but range of their interest is very wide. In the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, they today perform important and responsible social tasks, from educational and cultural, scientific and research, to managerial and political roles.
Vision
Philology at our university does not have a long tradition in higher education, but it already has significant and visible results. They are primarily reflected in the establishment of the teaching and scientific process in all three cycles of studying this scientific discipline (basic, master and doctoral studies), in the establishment of a quality environment and prerequisites for scientific research work (library, scientific publications and databases, scientific conferences), as well as establishing international and inter-university cooperation.
What are we striving for?
The Faculty of Philology strives to continue developing already established teaching-scientific and scientific-research capacities, in order to leave to future generations’ high quality and functional system of philological studies, which is networked, yet nationally responsible, and internationally recognized.
