The study program of German language and literature is one of the oldest study programs at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Banja Luka. The current curriculum provides the acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge of the German language, German literature and culture, translation, as well as a group of methodological and didactic subjects. In addition to them, the program provides the study of subjects from the Serbian language, literary theory, linguistics and another foreign language for a duration of two years (four semesters). 41 obligatory and 7 elective courses are distributed over eight semesters, i.e. four academic years. The first cycle of studies ends with the preparation and defense of a diploma thesis. In the Study Program of German Language and Literature, students acquire a high level of oral and written communicative competence in the German language. Since 2016, students in their final year of study have been conducting free German language courses at the Faculty of Philology in Banja Luka as part of methodological practice, and in that way they are practically applying the acquired knowledge. The study program of German language and literature has excellent cooperation with German companies, and from this cooperation, many opportunities arise for doing language practice as well as opportunities for later employment. Upon completion of the first cycle of studies, the academic title of professor of German language and literature is acquired.
